When creating my classroom floor plan, the majority of my ideas came from Rief, Atwell, and my experiences observing.

A and B – This is my classroom library. I plan on building my library by going to thrift stores (sometimes books are 5/$1) and the yearly library book sale at the fairgrounds. Last year, I observed Mr. Bill Ferriter at Salem Middle School. He had the idea to have students create video book trailers and then link those videos to a QR code that would be attached to the back of the book. This gives students an idea of what the book is about and how their classmates liked it before they read it.

C – This is a station where books can be checked in and checked out of my library. I would also keep dictionaries, thesauri, and literary magazines here. Another idea I had was to keep a file of book reviews here and, like Atwell suggested, a hanging file for information about authors or interviews.

D – This area of scrap paper, colored paper, magazines to cut up, and art supplies is an idea taken directly from Rief.

E – This is a small desk right at the entrance that holds make up work that students may have missed from being absent. I’d also like to keep a copy of the day’s newspaper here for students to have access to.

F – Comfy chairs for my library!

G – I like Atwell’s idea of using an easel. I’m not sure I would teach off of it, but I would use it for schedules, a unit table of contents, or objectives. I like the permanence of how you can keep the papers, something you can’t do with a whiteboard.
